”I like those crucibles that people have to go through. I wouldn’t wish the anxiety of them on an enemy, but I also know that if I’d been spared a single one of them, I wouldn’t be where I am.”

"You should thank me. With the Bifrost gone, how much dark energy did the Allfather have to muster to conjure you here? Your precious earth.”

Wow. Loki sees Thor for the first time after all he’s been through and he immediately jumps on this. There are parts of Avengers that have made me wonder whether Loki is in his own head enough to remember exactly what’s happened to him and why he hates Thor and why he’s doing what he’s doing, but this. This is so specific.

I’ve always honed in on the plot point - the middle sentence - and I’ve missed the sandwiching lines, which I think are the real point of what Loki’s saying. Thor has come for Loki now that Loki has threatened Earth. This I think Loki at least somewhat expected - he proved to himself in Thor that destructive behavior on his part is the only way to get Thor’s attention, and attacking Earth must have been for him a surefire way to get Thor to come. But that bitter “You should thank me” - as though he fears that even that attention is insignificant and wavering; as if he believes that in Thor’s mind, Loki’s attack on Earth is a convenient excuse for Thor to get Odin to send him here so he can see his “precious Earth” (/Jane: In Thor, we don’t really see Thor displaying a strong affinity for Earth as a planet in general, and it’s Thor’s affection for Jane that is the final point of contention between Thor and Loki at the end of their fight.

It’s through Jane that Thor learned to love Earth, and I think when Loki talks about Thor’s love of Earth, he’s talking about Jane (as movieverse Loki only operates on an intimately personal, emotional level).) Here, Earth/Jane is still very distinctly a thing that (in Loki’s mind) Thor loves more than he loves Loki, and will always choose over Loki, and this is all he can think of when he finally sees Thor again.

doctorbaggins:

My aunt met someone at her store who worked on the set of The Avengers and he told her about how RDJ and Tom Hiddleston were always pranking each other on set and how Robert and Tom were doing a scene together and Robert couldn’t stay still in his Iron Man suit because he was feeling really uncomfortable so they had to take a break and during break Tom walked up to Robert and said, “It’s called itching powder”, took a sip of his water, and walked away.
